Wash comforter Stuttgart Mitte: Super fluffy & clean!

If you live in Stuttgart, you know the problem: small apartments, no space for drying and the home washing machine capitulates with the 2×2 meter down comforter. In this guide, I'll show you why the launderette is a lifesaver for your sleeping comfort and how you can get a perfectly clean bed in under 90 minutes.

Before you ruin your washing machine at home or leave €40 at the dry cleaner, we have the perfect solution for you in the Laundromat Stuttgart Washpoint. At Paulinenstraße 10, our professional machines ensure that your laundry is fresh and hygienically clean again in record time.

How often should you wash a comforter?

Most people wash their comforter far too rarely. While we change the comforter covers every two weeks, the actual comforter is often ignored for years. Yet we spend around eight hours in them every night - and we lose up to half a liter of sweat per night.

My tip
Treat your comforter at least once or twice a year a round in a professional machine. This is the only way to keep it really hygienic and retain that fluffy hotel character.

However, there are situations in which you should come to the launderette more often:

Allergy sufferers

If you are sensitive to dust mites, you should wash your bed every three to four months. Mites love the warm and humid climate in your bed.

Heavy sweaters

If you sweat a lot at night, there is a risk that the salts in the sweat will attack the filling (especially in the case of down) and cause it to stick together.

Pet owner

If your dog or cat sleeps in the bed with you, two washes per year are the absolute minimum.

Why ventilation alone is not enough

Many people ask me: „I hang my blanket out of the window every day, isn't that enough?“

The short answer: No. Airing helps against moisture on the surface, but skin flakes, deep-seated bacteria and mite droppings cannot simply be „aired out“. Only a wash at a minimum of 60 degrees (if the material allows it) will really dissolve these residues.

My recommendation
I have a fixed date in my cell phone for spring and fall. When the reminder comes, I pack my blankets and head to the salon. That way I don't forget and always have a fresh bed when the season changes. The feeling is simply priceless.

Why the household washing machine often fails with comforters

Maybe you've tried it before. You somehow squeezed the blanket into the 7 kg drum at home, and in the end it was still stained or soaking wet. There are three simple reasons for this:

Too little space to move around

A comforter needs space to be properly rinsed by water and detergent. If the comforter is pressed into the drum, it only gets wet but not clean. The dirt simply gets stuck in the fibers.

The danger of imbalance

This is the biggest problem for your machine at home. A wet comforter is extremely heavy. When your machine tries to spin this huge, wet ball, it creates an imbalance. This is extremely hard on the bearings - in the worst case scenario, the machine will be scrap.

Water pump too low

Household appliances are designed to save water. They use as little water as possible. For a thick blanket, this is often not enough to really rinse out all the dust and mites.

My tip
Don't risk your expensive washing machine at home. Our XXL machines in the salon are built precisely for these loads and have enough power to rinse and spin the blanket properly.

Laundromat vs dry cleaning in Stuttgart in comparison

When the comforter needs washing, many people ask themselves: Do I take it to the dry cleaner or do I make a quick trip to the laundromat? Although there are many dry cleaners in Stuttgart, the comparison is often misleading. Here is the direct check:

Professional cleaningMy laundromat
DurationSeveral daysapprox. 90 minutes
PriceExpensive (from 35 €)Inexpensive (from approx. 12 €)
AvailabilityWaiting for daysTake back immediately

The time factor

You hand in your blanket at a traditional dry cleaner in Stuttgart and often wait 3 to 7 days, until you can pick it up again. So you'll either need a spare blanket or you'll be freezing for a few nights. You do everything in one go at the launderette. After about 90 minutes the blanket is washed, dried and ready for your bed.

The price difference

A professional cleaning for a down comforter in Stuttgart easily costs between 35 € and 60 €. At our launderette you pay for the XXL machine and the large dryer together only between 12 € and 18 €. So you save more than half and get the result immediately.

Full control

In the salon, you never know exactly what products will be used. In my salon, you decide for yourself: Which detergent do you use? How hot do you wash? You can see exactly what happens to your laundry.

Washing down comforters in the launderette step by step

Don't panic about the feathers! Many customers are afraid that their expensive down comforter will just be a lump after washing. But this is actually impossible in the launderette if you follow these three simple steps:

Step 1: Choose the right machine

Never use a small machine. For a normal down comforter, our 18 kg XXL machine perfect. The blanket must have room to expand properly in the water. This is the only way to really flush out the dust from the inside.

Check the label
In most cases, 60 degrees is ideal to get everything hygienically clean. If you're unsure, 40 degrees is also fine - that's often enough.

Step 2: The right detergent

Many people think: „A lot helps a lot“ and pour a lot of detergent into the machine. But this is often the reason why the blanket is no longer as fluffy after washing as it was before.

It is best to use a special Down detergent. This protects the natural fat of the feathers so that they remain elastic.

Which detergent is the best? It all depends on the filling:

For down comforters

Be sure to use a special Down or wool detergent. These products are moisturizing. This is important because down has a natural fat that keeps it elastic. Normal detergent removes this fat and the feathers become brittle.

This helpful guide explains what you should pay particular attention to when caring for high-quality springs. Guide to down care from Öko-Test. This ensures that your blanket retains its fluffiness for years to come.

For synthetic blankets

Here you can use a normal liquid mild detergent. Powder is often difficult because it is sometimes not rinsed out properly with thick blankets and then leaves white edges

Attention!
Stay away from fabric softener! Fabric softener is pure poison for down and functional fibers. It covers the feathers like a film and causes them to stick together immediately. As a result, the comforter loses all its fluffiness and no longer warms.

Step 3: The dryer trick for maximum fluffiness

Washing is just the preparation - the real „miracle“ happens in the dryer. Put the blanket in one of our large XXL dryer.

Throw 3-4 clean tennis balls into the drum. They will constantly knock the down during drying so that nothing sticks together.

Take the blanket out briefly every 15-20 minutes, shake it vigorously and put it back in the dryer. If it still feels cool in one place, it is not yet completely dry.

The 3 most common mistakes when washing comforters

In my laundromat, I see people washing their blankets every day. Many of them make the same three mistakes over and over again, which in the worst case can ruin expensive bed linen.

Drums too small and too much pressure

The classic: the blanket is forcefully stuffed into the washing machine until the door just closes. The blanket cannot unfold. The water doesn't even reach the core of the filling. You end up with a blanket that is wet on the outside but still full of dust and mites on the inside.

My tip
Always use a drum that is at least twice the size of the blanket when dry.

Fabric softener - death for every filling

I can't say it often enough: Leave out the fabric softener! Many people want their comforter to smell nice, but with down and modern synthetic fibers, fabric softener has the opposite effect of „fluffy“. It sticks the fine fibers and feathers together. The comforter collapses and loses its insulating power. It simply no longer warms you properly.

Underestimating the drying process

„Oh, I'll hang it on the clothes horse at home“ - a huge mistake. Especially with down, this almost always leads to the comforter starting to smell musty after two days because the feathers inside don't dry out and start to rot. Without the constant movement and hot air in a large dryer, you will never get the volume of a comforter back to what it was when you bought it.

How to prepare your comforter

Before you grab your blanket and head to the salon, there are two or three steps that make all the difference. Good preparation ensures that the wash penetrates deeper and the blanket really does look like new at the end.

The hole check

This is the most important point of all, especially with down. Check the seams of your comforter. Is there a small hole or tear anywhere?

There is a lot of movement in our professional machines. A tiny hole can quickly turn into a „snowstorm“ in the drum. Once the springs are out, the ceiling is ruined - and the machine is clogged.

Really check every corner. If you find a hole, be sure to sew it up first.

Pre-treat stains

Do you have yellow sweat stains or perhaps spilled coffee in bed? Stubborn stains like these need a little help.

My tip
Rub the stains briefly at home with a little Gall soap or a stain remover spray and leave it on for 10 minutes. When the blanket then goes into our large XXL machine, the dirt comes off much more easily.

Remove covers

It may sound logical, but I get asked this extremely often: Yes, take off the sheets! The blanket must be placed „naked“ in the drum. If the cover is still on, the water will not reach the filling properly and the blanket will never get really fluffy in the dryer because the cover slows down the air supply.

Why drying in the laundrette is the most important step

This is the point at which it is decided whether your blanket will be as good as new or a case for the garbage can. Many people completely underestimate the drying process and think that a little heating at home is enough.

The problem with residual moisture

Moisture is the biggest enemy of down in particular. If the feathers in the core are not 100 % dry, they start to clump and - even worse - they start to mold. You can smell this immediately. At home on the drying rack, drying takes days, and it is during this time that the musty smell develops.

Volume needs space

Something happens in our XXL dryers in the launderette that your dryer at home can't do: the comforter has plenty of room to puff up. The hot air really swirls the down or synthetic fibers.

The tennis ball effect
The fibers are repeatedly „beaten up“ by the movement in the large dryer (preferably with a few clean tennis balls). The result is a blanket that is as fluffy as on the first day.

Time savings that pay off

Instead of having a wet, heavy blanket hanging in your apartment for three days, which drives up the humidity (hello mold danger!), you're back with us after 30 to 45 minutes drying time ready. You can take the blanket straight back to bed with you in the evening.

My tip
If you take the blanket out of the dryer and it still feels cool in one place, it is not ready yet. Better give it another 10 minutes. The blanket must feel warm and light through and through.

Comforter washing Stuttgart: Large 18kg industrial washing machine at Washpoint for XXL comforters and quilts.
At home, the machine goes on strike with the comforter. Here at Washpoint Stuttgart, the 18 kg drum easily swallows even the thickest comforter.

Maximum cleaning through freedom of movement

In a small machine, the comforter is often only „rolled“ because it sticks to the drum wall. In the 18 kg machine the blanket has plenty of room. The water and detergent can really rinse the fibers. The dirt, sweat and dander are not only wetted, but really washed out.

No more fear of imbalance

At home, you often hear a loud bang when the machine tries to spin a heavy blanket. This is because the weight cannot be distributed. Our 18 kg machines are industrial powerhouses. They are designed to balance massive loads perfectly. This ensures a Better spin results - and the blanket comes out of the machine much drier.

Several blankets in one go

You can easily get two normal comforters or a huge XXL king-size blanket plus pillow. This saves you time and money. Instead of starting three cycles at home (and taking up the whole day), you'll be done after one wash cycle with us in Stuttgart.

Professional technology for better hygiene

Our large machines work with a completely different water flow and pump performance. This means that the rinse cycles are much more effective. Detergent residues, which often cause irritation for allergy sufferers, don't stand a chance here - they are rinsed out completely.

XXL dryer in action: A large white comforter swirls easily in the professional drum at Washpoint Stuttgart for a fluffy result.
In the XXL dryer, the blanket has enough space to swirl. This is the only way to get it really dry and fluffy from all sides in record time.

My tip

Fresh bed linen and pillows in the laundry basket in front of the XXL dryers at Washpoint Stuttgart - ideal for large quantities of bedding.
After washing, the comforter and pillow go straight into our XXL dryer. The large drums ensure that everything dries evenly and remains wonderfully fluffy.

The comforter is dry in just 40 minutes. Thanks to the large drum, the filling remains fluffy and is not compressed.

Space is the be-all and end-all

A tumble dryer at home usually only has half the capacity of our professional appliances. In a small drum, the blanket crumples up and the hot air doesn't even reach the center. In our 20 kg giants, the blanket can really „fly“. The warm air flows through every single fiber and down. The result? No more damp patches.

Crease-free and extremely fast

The huge drum means there are hardly any creases. While you have the humidity in your home for three days (and risk the blanket smelling musty), our dryers do the job in 30 to 45 minutes. This not only saves you time, but also spares your nerves.

The fluff factor for your blanket

Down comforters in particular need movement to regain volume. In the large 20 kg drum, the feathers fall deep again and again and are perfectly loosened up by the air flow.

Hygiene through controlled heat

Our dryers keep the temperature constant. This is important to kill the last of the bacteria without burning the fibers. At home, it often either doesn't get really hot at all or gets too hot in one place - with us, the heat distribution is absolutely even thanks to the large drum.

A good night's sleep starts with a fresh blanket

Washing comforters is not rocket science if you use the right technique and have enough space. Instead of torturing yourself at home with a machine that is too small or waiting days for the expensive cleaning, just make it easy for yourself.

There's nothing better than lying in bed at night smelling of fresh laundry and snuggling up in a blanket that's as fluffy as the first day. It's pure luxury for your sleep - and at our laundrette, it only costs you a short coffee break.

No appointments, no stress. Pack your blanket and just come to us with your blankets at the Laundromat Stuttgart Washpoint over.
